Teaching life skills and academics to the youngest of God’s children in a safe, creative preschool environment.

PRESCHOOL HISTORY

In 1963, in response to a need for early childhood education in Henrico County, All Saints Episcopal Church established a weekday school for young children. What began as a small endeavor has grown to house classrooms for students ranging in ages from two to five. Over the years, the preschool has added the very popular Extended-day program as well as Enrichment classes such as art, ballet, baking, gymnastics and tae kwon do. The most recent addition is our Mom’s Morning-Out Program for students ages sixteen to twenty-three months.

MISSION

All Saints Preschool is committed to providing a loving, enthusiastic, faith-based educational environment for preschool age children through developmentally appropriate activities. This approach encourages children to grow in a well-rounded manner with attention to his or her social, emotional, cognitive, physical and spiritual needs.

TEACHERS

Our teachers have a wide variety of experience and education. As a team we continue to grow professionally each year through training and seminars in the field of Early Childhood Education learning new and creative approaches to support our mission in serving children and families. All of our staff is trained in First Aid and CPR.

FAMILIES

Parents play a vital role in our program. Families can be a very active part of each day participating as a classroom reader, party planner or substitute teacher. There are also opportunities to support school-sponsored charities and fund-raising events. Parents and families are welcome to visit their child at school at anytime.

Our Director, Mary Pat Palmerton

Mary Pat Palmerton is the director of All Saints Episcopal Preschool. Mary Pat, a Montana native, came to the All Saints in Spring 2007 from the preschool at New Life United Methodist, Midlothian.

She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from the University of Montana. Since that time her professional teaching experiences have varied from substitute teaching and tutoring to the instruction of preschool students. She also has extensive retail management experience, with skills in hiring, interviewing, business operations, merchandising and staff development.

Mary Pat has spear-headed many improvements in her time here—from adding a new 18-month old class to new logo and “yet-to-named” mascot (see below), to new furnishings such as carpet, tables and chairs. Come by and meet Mary Pat. You will love her as much as your children will.

Our Program Schedule

Pre-Kindergarten Class: 9:00 am-Noon

For children 4 years old by Sept. 30, 2008

Monday-Thursday OR Monday-Friday

We offer Kindergarten preparation and developmentally appropriate play. Calendar activities, independent work and group lessons are structured to engage students socially and cognitively. Our teachers offer an enriched hands-on science curriculum. Students are challenged academically. Social skills are a continued teaching focus as the students gain independence. Literacy, art and outside play are a part of each day.

Three Year Old Class: 9:00 am-Noon

For children 3 years old and toilet-trained

by Sept. 30, 2008

Monday - Wednesday, Thursday - Friday OR Monday – Friday

Three year old children are developing from toddlers into school age children. Teaching students how to manage this transition socially and emotionally with their peers is our main goal. Through center times with manipulative and age appropriate sensory materials, fine motor skills are a concentrated focus in preparation for writing. Literacy, art and outside play are part of each day.

Two Year Old Class: 9:00 am-Noon

For children 2 years old by Sept. 30, 2008

Monday-Wednesday OR Thursday-Friday

Our teachers assist in the process of speech and language development. Through meaningful interactions with students and developmentally appropriate centers and lessons, a two year old student’s vocabulary is significantly increased. Communications with parents at arrivals and dismissals assist with transitions. Guidance is given to parents and students to achieve toilet training goals. Literacy, art and outside play are a part of each day.

Mom’s Morning Out (MMO):

For those children 16-23 months by Sept. 30, 2008

Thursdays, 9:00 am-Noon

Mom’s Morning Out provides an opportunity for students not quite two years of age to have a social experience outside the home. Speech and language development is a focus as well as building gross and fine motor skills through play. Literacy, art and outside play are included each day.

Weekly Chapel Services

We feel the celebration of Christian faith is very important to our students. Preschool Chapel takes place upstairs in the small Chapel next to the main church. All Saints’ clergy – The Reverend Dr. Bob Friend and The Reverend Bill Queen, or Director of Children’s Ministry, Rev. Claire George – preside over the weekly service. Chapel is offered Wednesday and/or Thursday to our Two Year Old through Pre-K students.

Weekly Music Enrichment

Music is an exciting weekly event with Ms. Betsy. our music teacher. Ms Betsy has been teaching music for over twenty years and we feel fortunate to have her! She visits our school twice each week.
