    A symbol taken from the first three letters of the Greek rendering of Jesus (IHCOYC).  As time went on, the transliterated Greek “C” was replaced by the Latin “S”.  In modern times, it has also come to mean “I (Jesus) Have Suffered” or “In His Service.”
