NURSERY DIRECTOR

 

All Saints is a kind-hearted and revitalizing program-sized Episcopal parish in the West End of Richmond, VA. All Saints began in 1888 as a mission of Monumental Episcopal Church in downtown Richmond and moved in 1955 to the West End, adjacent to Roslyn, the Diocesan conference center. With a budget of over $1 million and an Average Sunday Attendance (ASA) of 214, All Saints is known for traditional Episcopal worship, a strong Anglican choral and music program, a thriving preschool, and hosting community events. We aspire to do more, especially with young adults and families with young children, to improve fellowship among all members, and to engage with various outreach ministries in Richmond and beyond.

 

Overall Job Description:

Reporting to the Rector, the Nursery Director coordinates childcare for infants through age 3 every Sunday, from thirty minutes before through until fifteen minutes after the main worship service (currently 10:30 a.m.), and other irregular services and programs as assigned, including Christmas Eve, Easter Sunday, and other parish activities. The Nursery should be an attractive, inviting, and safe environment for All Saints’ children.

 

Part-time position (Sundays, 2 to 4 hours per week, and other irregular services and programs as assigned) available September 2025. Strong communication, organization, and management skills, and personal transportation, are required. Salary is $2,500.00/year, plus $25.00/hour for any time worked in the Nursery.

 

Work Includes:

 

• Being present in the Nursery while it is open or scheduling a properly trained adult volunteer to substitute if ill or out of town. • Greeting children and their families when they arrive to use the Nursery, signing each child in and out.

• Interacting with children while they are in the Nursery.

• If a diaper needs to be changed, maintaining safe practices, including never leaving a child unattended, wearing gloves, cleaning the table after each change, and washing hands.

• If serving a snack, please do so at table, wiping down the table before and after any children have eaten.

• Recruiting, vetting, hiring, and training all Nursery staff members, usually high school or college students.

• Ensuring that the Director and all staff conform to the Safe Church Guidelines maintained by our Episcopal Diocese of Virginia.

• Overseeing work schedules to provide adequate staffing when the Nursery is open.

• Computing monthly pay and submitting time sheets for Nursery staff to the Financial Administrator or Parish Administrator. • Shopping for Nursery supplies, keeping it stocked with consumables, such as disposable gloves, diaper wipes, cleaning supplies, batteries for toys, and allergy-conscious snacks. 

• Monitoring the nursery equipment and toys, wiping down toys and shelves as needed, putting equipment and toys away as they are organized, and requesting replacements when they are unsafe and/or worn out.

• Coordinating deeper, regular Nursery cleanings with the Facility Manager.

• Maintaining forms for records in the Nursery, such as sign-in sheets, information forms on children, and expectations of staff members.
